Appearing on ITV’s Lorraine, Luke said: “Being mentally aware of your well-being psychologically is important.
“We all carry baggage around with us, men carry it way deeper than women most of the time. We’re not good at talking about it and opening up.
“I was talking about therapy and how important it is, if you have it, to have it. Sometimes you forget what you’re carrying around on a daily basis and it stores itself and builds up.
“It can manifest itself in all sorts of negative ways, so it’s better to talk about it, get it out, and not be ashamed of that either.”
After being praised for speaking out as a man, Luke said: “I’m from the valleys of South Wales, men don’t talk about it.”
The star credited staying at home rather than moving to Hollywood and being around his family for keeping him grounded.
He explained: “My home is London. I’ve never really left London. It’s my home, this is where I’ve based myself since college since I was 17.
“My family keep me grounded. It’s a good thing. You should never forget your roots because it gives you authenticity.
“You should never lose an accent that gives you personality and character, and I think it’s staying in London and keeping the friends I’ve had my whole life.
“And it’s good to be reminded of where you’ve come from, what you’ve done and the journey that you’ve been on.’
Why is good mental health important?
Good mental health and wellbeing is essential to living a happy and healthy life, according to the NHS.
It explains: “Looking after your mental health is not something we should just do if we are struggling, or feeling low, anxious or stressed. It’s actually something we should think about all the time and really invest in, just like with our physical health.

“Having good mental health can help us sleep better, feel better, enable us to the things we want to do, and help us have more positive relationships with those around us. We do not need to wait until we’re struggling.
“Looking after our mental health is not only good for us now, it can also help us deal with and manage difficult times in the future. Over time, it may also reduce our risk of physical health problems.”
Getting good sleep is one way to improve a person’s mental wellbeing.
The health body continues: “Getting a good night’s sleep can make a huge difference to our lives and our mental health. Managing our sleep can help improve our mood, make us more productive, and improve our concentration during the day.”
If you’re having difficult falling asleep, a regular bedtime routine can help you wind down and prepare for bed.
The NHS recommends aiming for between six and nine hours sleep every night and winding down before bed with a warm bath or relaxation exercises.
Making sure your bedroom is sleep friendly by making sure it’s dark, quiet, tidy and the right temperature (between 18C and 24C) can also help, as well as keeping a sleep diary.
The health body adds: “Your routine depends on what works for you, but the most important thing is working out a routine and sticking to it.”
