British bodybuilder and YouTuber Matt Morsia, a.k.a. MattDoesFitness, has kept himself busy during quarantine with fitness challenges. He previously attempted a sprint triathalon in his house, which included a 400 meter swim in a kiddie pool. And even before lockdown he was a bloke for challenges—from gymnastics training to master a backflip and CrossFit workouts, Matt is always ready to try some fitness.
The vlogger’s latest YouTube fitness challenge sees him taking on the U.S. Air Force’s Physical Fitness Test (PFT) without any practice or prep. His wife, Sarah, is his challenge partner, and does the workout alongside him.
The test consists of one minute of pushups, one minute of situps, and a timed 1.5 mile run. They decide to aim for the test’s ‘graduation’ standards (which look different than the list we found above, but we’ll let them slide for the attempt, since’s it’s not official):
Men
27 pushups
39 situps
11:57 for 1.5 mile run
Women
14 pushups
29 situps
14:26 for 1.5 mile run
“My cardio is absolutely horrendous, so it’s gonna suck,” Morsia says before he starts the test.
For the first challenge, pushups, he reps out 46 pushups, and Sarah reps out 27. The both pass.
Next, they move on to the situps. Matt reps out exactly 39 needed to pass, while Sarah reps out 31.
“What is wrong with me!” yells Matt, not super happy with his results.
But then they’re on to the run.
“I’m not gonna lie, I’m terrified. I literally hate running, I never do it, and every time I do it it frickin’ sucks,” he says.
But he pulls it off, clocking in at 11:29, absolutely exhausted and out of breath, on the verge of puking.
“I went out too fast,” he says. “Ahh, I feel sick.”
And Sarah completes her run in 14:19.
They both pass each part of the test—or at least their adapted version of it.
“Welcome to the U.S. Air Force,” Matt says at the end of the challenge. Not quite, bud.
