In a new Instagram video published on Monday afternoon, Dr. Pimple Popper—aka, celebrity dermatologist Dr. Sandra Lee, MD—addresses one of the more inconveniently located cysts we’ve ever seen, hovering just a few centimeters from the patient’s eye.
Deploying her usual breezy, chatty bedside manner, Dr. Lee makes quick work of the cyst in the brief clip—as she pinches it during the extraction, the cyst emits a large globule of thick white ooze. Or as the doctor puts it more colorfully in her caption, “this cyst is giving me brunch vibes—shrimp and grits anyone?” Lest that not be enough to ruin your dinner tonight, the comfort food comparisons don’t stop there—moments into the video, the Dr. Lee also likens what she’s seeing to “little mashed potato cysts.” So yeah, who’s hungry?

As the doctor snips out the sac that contained the growth, she mentions that the patient has had this cyst removed twice before. That’s fairly common with epidermoid cysts, as we’ve covered previously. According to the Mayo Clinic, the “incision and drainage” method—which the doctor seems to be using in this video—involves “making a small cut in the cyst and gently [squeezing] out the contents. This is a fairly quick and easy method, but cysts often recur after this treatment.”

When that happens, some patients may need to opt for minor surgery to remove the entire cyst. As tempting as videos like this make it seem, however, the most important thing is to resist the urge to squeeze a cyst like this one yourself—that could open up you up to scarring and infection, the Mayo Clinic advises. Instead, cover it with a moist cloth to help it drain and heal, and give it time. Leave the squeezing to the pros.
