This Fitness Blogger Was Labelled ‘Obese’ In Her After Photo

Fitness and fashion blogger Lucy Mountain has shared an important message with her 200k Instagram followers after a machine defined her as ‘obese’.

The UK-native posted a comparison of herself at her “lightest vs heaviest” and explained how her physique had fluctuated over the past 10 months.

“I don’t often weigh myself,” she wrote in the caption.

“Not because I find it ‘depressing’ (I detached my self-worth from my relationship with gravity a long time ago), it’s just not a marker which I use to determine success. I consider myself neutral to the number.”

But Lucy decided to undergo a body evaluation – measuring factors like BMI, strength and nutrition – before she kicked off a new 12 week training program. The results of which further reinforced her attitude towards these measurements.

“Since July, the stats included an increase in body fat, maintenance with my muscle, and a waist-to-hip ratio defined as ‘obese’ which was previously considered ‘normal’.”⠀

“This label – combined with the fact I’ve gained 4kg – could have been a pretty wonderful recipe to feel v shit about myself. But in truth, I have the self-awareness to know I am in fact neither of those labels, I’m still an alright person and I’m actually doing okay.”

She’s reminded her followers that numbers don’t define health or self worth, and that gaining weight isn’t the end of the world.

“Bodies are fluid, and change all the time. Detach yourself from labels, detach yourself from numbers and don’t let bs define you.”

Hear, hear.
