The Reason Why Hamish Blake Can't Go Near His New Daughter

Unless you’ve been living under a wifi-free rock for the last week, you’ll know that everyone’s fave Aussie couple, Hamish and Zoe Foster Blake, have welcomed their second child Rudy Hazel Blake into the world.

However, it hasn’t been all smooth sailing for our favourite comedic family, who are also parents to three-year-old Sonny. In his first interview since the birth, Hamish admitted, “I haven’t been able to hold her.”

“When Zoe went into labour [Sonny] got a terrible virus and I said to Zoe I would keep him away from her and run interference… I then got the virus,” the comedian revealed to Carrie Bickmore and Tommy Little on their Hit radio show.

“Everyone’s saying, ‘Enjoy the baby bubble, enjoy the baby bubble’ – I’m in a Hazmat bubble. I have to go through the full ebola washdown before I can get near my child,” he joked.

In the meantime, the 35-year-old has had to admire his daughter from afar. “She’s lovely, and I enjoy looking at her form a distance or behind a surgical mask, but you’re right now talking to a guy with pink eye.”

Babies are particularly susceptible to contracting illnesses because their immune systems are still developing. So it’s a good reminder for everyone, especially during flu season, to keep your distance from newborns if you’re sick and make sure to wash your hands thoroughly before getting snuggly.
