Covid new strain symptoms: Sign to ‘seek medical attention’ – what colour are your feet?

Vaccines ‘don’t work equally against covid variants’ says expert

  • Covid symptoms tend to include a dry cough, loss of smell or taste, and a high fever
  • But some patients also find subtle changes on their feet
  • Your toes may turn a red/purple colour, an expert has warned
  • So-called ‘Covid toes’ could also cause inflamed, painful feet

Covid symptoms include an unusually high fever, shortness of breath, and developing a new, continuous cough. But one of the warning signs to seek medical attention straight away has been revealed. Have your toes changed colour?

Covid cases have started to fall in the UK, but there are still huge numbers of people testing positive for coronavirus every day.

More than 100,000 people have died from Covid in the UK since the start of the pandemic.

The country has been plunged into a third national lockdown in a bid to drive down infection rates.

You should self-isolate if you develop any of the three key warning signs of coronavirus.

Some patients have reported developing signs of Covid on their feet, according to Medicine Direct’s Superintendent Pharmacist, Hussain Abdeh.

You may find that your toes turn a reddish/purple colour, he warned.

This symptom has become known as so-called ‘Covid toes’, and it can be caused by the coronavirus infection.

Patients may also find that their toes become swollen and feel like they’re burning.

“An inflammatory skin rash [lesions] that affects the toes is another symptom to look out for that isn’t mentioned in the headlines,” he told Express Health.

“You may be suffering from COVID-19 if you develop a rash that makes your toes swell, itch or feel like they are burning.

“In some cases, they may also turn red or purple. This symptom has been dubbed ‘Covid toes’, and you are advised to seek medical attention as soon as possible if you start to get signs of this occurring.

“Some people who have tested positive for COVID-19 have also developed a rash or hives. These physical symptoms have been likened to chickenpox.”

Elsewhere, you could also be at risk of Covid infection if you lose your sense of smell or taste.

Losing your sense of smell – which is also known as anosmia – is also one of the most unnoticeable symptoms, added Abdeh.

But, crucially, it’s also one of the most serious symptoms you should be looking out for.

In the UK, you should self-isolate if you lose your sense of smell.

There are also a number of other symptoms that coronavirus patients have reported.

You may be feeling particularly lethargic, nauseous or dizzy, experts have claimed.

If you think that you have coronavirus, it’s crucial that you get tested for the virus straight away.

You should self-isolate until you get your test results, and should only return to normal lockdown life if you test negative.
