CrossFit fans might be frustrated that they’re stuck at home with most gyms across the country shuttered due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic—but their spirits will surely lift when they find out they’re getting an early gift.
The Buttery Bros—the documentary team behind some of the best-received films about the sport, like Fittest on Earth: The Story of the 2015 Reebok CrossFit Games and Fittest on Earth: A Decade of Fitness—just announced that they will be dropping their much-anticipated new movie The Fittest earlier than expected. The film now premieres Tuesday, March 24, exclusively on iTunes.
The original release date was April 7, but the film will be pushed out sooner, thanks to “unprecedented pre-sales (over 20K),” according to a press release from the duo.
The Fittest goes behind the scenes of the 2019 CrossFit Games, which saw repeat winners in both the men’s and women’s divisions. Mat Fraser won his record-tying fourth title, and Tia-Clair Toomey took a record third straight crown. The film also features behind-the-scenes exclusives and interviews with other competitors, including Noah Ohlsen, Katrin Davidsdottir, Sara Sigmundsdottir, Patrick Vellner, and Brent Fikowski.
“I was in full blackout mode. I’m like, what the f*ck is happening?” says Fraser in another clip.
