Padma Lakshmi, host of the US TV program Top Chef, has long been vocal about her experience with endometriosis – a painful disease in which the tissue from inside the womb grows outside of it.
And in a recent post on Instagram, the 47-year-old shared a little known symptom of the often debilitating condition that affects one in 10 women.
“Day 3 of endo induced migraine from clenching teeth due to cramps…. even my ear hurts,” she captioned the image that featured her partially covering her face with her arm.
A small scale study published in the journal Human Reproduction back in 2004 found that 38 per cent of women with endo experienced migraines compared to 15 per cent of women without the disease. Those with endo also reported getting migraines earlier in life – 16, on average – compared to other women who started getting them at around age 21.
Other symptoms include heavy, painful periods, pain during sex, gastrointestinal and urinary issues, and fertility issues.
