Dipset Rapper Jim Jones Is Training Hard for the Group’s Verzuz Battle

An iconic hip-hop war is brewing for next week with the legacy of legendary New York rap groups on the line. Dipset and The Lox are scheduled to go head-to-head in a back-and-forth battle of their biggest hits on Verzuz, the popular battle platform that has given some of rap and hip-hop’s biggest names a chance to run back the top songs in their catalogues against those of their contemporaries. You might think preparation for an event like this would be rehearsing lyrics and developing a tracklist, but for Dipset’s Jim Jones, the toughest training is taking place in the gym.

Jones took to Instagram throughout the past few weeks to share clips of the intense workouts he’s been doing to get ready to take the stage. The most recent of the clips shows the artist closing out a tough sled push and pull series and feeling the burn of some core work with a med ball.

“In case you didn’t know, I been training for war August 3,” Jones captioned his post. “Dipset is comin’ to smoke on Lox pack, period.”

The clips help to put ridicule of the rapper ‘skipping leg day’ to bed. After sharing some footage of himself doing pull-ups on Instagram on July 1, the feedback in Jones’ comments consisted of trolls roasting him ,claiming the size of his legs were disproportionate to his more developed upper body. The competitive Dipset member fired back issuing a challenge for haters to show themselves performing a single-leg squat adding, “Do this and I’ll shut the fuck up.”

Though Jones’ pullup video sparked some ridicule and competitive banter between Dipset and The Lox’s fan bases, hip-hop fans as a whole are just excited to see the groups being celebrated in a Verzuz battle. Whether you will tune in for The Lox’s Jadakiss, Styles P, and Sheek Louch or Dispet’s Jones, Cam’ron, Juelz Santana, and others, performances by either group are rarely a disappointment.

It all goes down Tuesday, August 3 live from Madison Square Garden. To tune in, you can check out @verzuztv on Instagram live at 6:30PM PT/9:30PM ET. Any rap fan knows this is a celebration you definitely don’t want to miss.
