For the last two decades, Gisele Bündchen's body has been celebrated all over the world. But despite appearing on countless magazine covers and scoring a $25 million contract with Victoria's Secret, the supermodel isn't without her insecurities — including one that led her to undergo plastic surgery that she ended up regretting.
In a new interview with People, the supermodel revealed that she got a breast augmentation three years ago. “I was always praised for my body, and I felt like people had expectations from me that I couldn’t deliver,” Bündchen says, noting that after breastfeeding her son Benjamin for 18 months she realized her breasts were smaller and more uneven than they had been in the past. “I felt very vulnerable because I can work out, I can eat healthy, but I can’t change the fact that both of my kids enjoyed the left boob more than the right. All I wanted was for them to be even and for people to stop commenting on it.”
According to People, the model underwent a breast augmentation in 2015 and says she immediately regretted her decision to alter her body. “When I woke up, I was like, ‘What have I done?’ I felt like I was living in a body I didn’t recognize,” she continued. “For the first year I wore [baggy] clothes because I felt uncomfortable.”
Despite how she felt following the surgery, her husband, Tom Brady, offered her love and support throughout the process. “He just said, ‘I love you no matter what’ and that I looked beautiful,” she said. “This was definitely another lesson: What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. But I wish I would have learned that a different way.”
In the past, Bündchen has spoken about some of the criticism she experienced about her body when she first entered the modeling industry. "I remember some people telling me my nose was too big or my eyes were too small, that I could never be on a magazine cover…It wasn't easy to be 14 and hear that kind of criticism. It made me feel insecure," she said in an interview in 2016. "At that point I felt, if I kept working hard and giving my best, it would all work out."
