Spa doctor: How you can ease your stress with fruit, yoga and yogurt
THE PROBLEM
I’m prone to bouts of debilitating stress which worsen when left alone with my thoughts.
Recently, this has resulted in perpetual writer’s block, lack of concentration, stiff shoulders and headaches.
I’d long been interested in theories that escaping human contact and being ‘at one’ with nature can be effective at treating stress-related psychological conditions and reducing pain sensitivity.
THE SOLUTION
Garden therapy courtesy of Son Brull hotel and spa – a 45-minute drive north of Palma airport in Majorca.

THE TREATMENT
A 7am session of gentle yoga with an in-house teacher starts my day with calming, deep breaths and relieves my body of stiffness.
Breakfast is a selection of local delicacies including fresh plums, peaches, figs and goat’s yogurt.
My speciality massage features the Prickly Pear, which is known as a herbal remedy for open wounds and inflammation.
The flowers and seed oil are rich in Vitamins C and E, and I emerge from a 60-minute massage completely relaxed.
After a double dip in the (indoor) cold springs, then a 34C bath, I am at ease and manage to settle down do some work… and finish it.
I return home rejuvenated, my mind unusually serene and with my deadline met.
