In case you somehow missed this (if so, then let’s have to talk about your priorities) Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcomed Baby Sussex, officially, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, on May 6, 2019.
And while they made the world wait a full two days before offering a peek at the beautiful baby boy, Archie’s moment in the spotlight finally came today at St. George’s Hall at Windsor Castle.
While it’s easy to assume everything must be running smoothly for Harry and Meghan (you know, because of their giant staff…) nothing’s guaranteed when a new baby’s in the picture. Terri Orbuch, PhD, author of 5 Simple Steps to Take Your Marriage From Good to Great, and a professor at Oakland University, analysed Harry and Meghan’s body language to see how they’re faring as new parents.
Harry and Meghan are excited for their new beginning.
First of all, let’s take a moment to appreciate these outfits—mom, dad, and Archie are all wearing white. The color is symbolic of “a new and good beginning, birth, and innocence,” says Orbuch, which is typically a good sign. But then again, the royal family is teeming with public relations professionals, right? So there’s a good chance the coordinated outfits are probably a precious setup.
Back to the body language: Meghan and Prince Harry are looking “relaxed, comfortable with each other and the baby—indicating that they’re good and happy together” as they walk out toward the photographers, Orbuch says. Meghan’s eyes are glued to her newborn and Harry is beaming while surrounded by his family. Harry’s super-secure grip on Archie indicates dad’s already hooked on this little guy.
They’ve already established an unbreakable bond with Archie.
“Meghan is touching her stomach and the baby,” Orbuch points out, a clue that means she feels super-connected to Archie. Her gentle hand touching both Archie and Harry’s arm demonstrates how they’re all already bonded. Two days after delivering him, Meghan is proud of her new family.
Archie’s got some dedicated parents.
This baby is in GOOD hands. According to Orbuch, Harry’s overlapped hands are symbolic of the solid foundation baby Archie has to lean on for the rest of his life. Plus, he’s got parents who can’t get enough of each other—I mean, peep that eye-contact. That loving gaze suggests “we are in this together,” Orbuch assures.
Meghan and Harry can’t get enough of their son.
Okay, yes, this is just a closeup of the second photo, but Orbuch had more to say, okay?! She points out the way Harry’s mouth hangs open “with awe, with wonderment” about their son. And the parents’ eyes—super-focused on the baby—communicate their “true love, true commitment, and genuine dedication” to their family.
This love is not being played up for the cameras.
Orbuch couldn’t resist saying: “I love this photo,” before getting into her analysis, and TBH, I can’t blame her. “Meghan has her hands on Harry’s shoulder—and most likely either on her stomach or the baby— connecting them together [again].” As they walk away from the media, Harry and Meghan are stepping in unison which points to similar goals for their new life. And as they head back into the castle—into their private life—they’re still showing each other a ton of love which convinces Orbuch that this couple is the real deal.
