Kim Kardashian Spills the Details on KKW Beauty's New Classic Blossom Makeup Collection

Another month, another KKW Beauty launch from Kim Kardashian West. But her Classic Blossom collection, which is inspired by her love of cherry blossoms and went on sale on September 14th, brings with it a few surprises.

First off, the makeup range includes a selection of eight pink and berry lipsticks, shades that the makeup mogul fully admits to never wearing. (Think of the last time you saw her Kim K wearing a bold lip — you have to go back years to find an example.) It also marks the first time the Queen of Contour has launched blush, a product we don't often see her wearing out and about or on the red carpet. "In the early years, [Kim] did like more makeup so she definitely was a blush girl back then," her makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic once told Allure. Well, it looks like maybe her beauty changes might change once again. But don't take it from me. I'll let Kim tell you all about it in her own words:

On not being afraid of pink and red eye shadows.

"I use these types of colors — pinks, purples, burgundies — as accent colors unless I'm doing a full purple or burgundy look. But the beauty of the Classic Blossom palette is the champagne colors and the fact the burgundy shade is a deep burgundy that could work for a smoky eye look.

There's nothing too bright and crazy [in the palette] so you can really figure out how to do a soft, simple look with it. I mean, it's kind of like the burgundy version of my Classic Palette, which is just more neutrals and browns."

On her first foray into blush.

"I was really excited to make a blush and it just seemed to fit with the theme of the collection. My blush style has definitely changed [over the years]. I like a more toned-down blush look now, so I wanted to do a sheer-ish formula that would stand out but is still really blendable. That was super important to me because I hate an overly done blush look.

The colors are pretty neutral, too. One is peachy, one is pinky, and one is a deeper mauve color that is good for darker skin tones. Two of the blushes have shimmer but it's not a heavy shimmer; it's there to give a little luminescence but not a real glow.

I work really hard on my formulas and spend a lot of time on them. It's important to me that my products are blendable and easy to use. I've never claimed to be a makeup artist so I like products that are really simple for me to use and still have that snatched look. I want to be able to watch my makeup artist use the product and duplicate the look on myself — not feel like you need a special technique or special skills to use it."

On how her blush style has evolved over the years.

"Sometimes I look back at pictures and we used to use a bright pink all the time and it was just really heavy, especially on camera, when I was filming my show. It was really evident that I had so much blush on. I don't know if it was like, one day we just decided to tone down the makeup a little bit but for me, it was key that we had to tone down the blush. Now, I want that rosy effect but without looking like you have so much blush on."

On her current blush technique.

"I apply the blush on the apple of my cheeks and then I always put a little bit on my forehead and my chin and my nose. I don't know why, but I always go down my T-zone to give myself a little bit of color."

On her favorite pieces in the collection.

"I'm really into the darker of the three blushes — it's such a pretty color. And when I'm tan, it just makes me look a touch sunkissed. And I actually really like the combination of the berry lipstick with the berry shadow in the palette. In the campaign image, where I'm laying in a bed of cherry blossoms, that's the color combination I'm wearing and I like that it still looks really neutral but just with a slightly different tone."

On easing into bright lipstick shades.

"The lipsticks in this collection were really different for me because I usually stick to my nudes. I see bright lipstick, especially on Kendall — red lipstick looks amazing on her — and I'm so envious of that. But I saw a lot of my fan base saying, OK, we know you love nudes and we love nudes too, but we'd also love some color. And I thought this collection would be the perfect opportunity to go for it and do eight great pink shades.

I used to wear pink [lipstick] but I feel like I wear makeup differently than I used to. Mario [Dedivanovic] would blend all these pink and mauve-y tones and put them on me, and I would love it, but when I would go to do it myself I couldn't mix and blend and all that. So I feel confident about the eight shades of pink we chose. Even the berry colors, which I've never been a fan of — especially a stain, a berry stain lip has never been my thing — so I made sure that I would wear each and every color we developed."

On whether or not we'll see her wearing that fuchsia lipstick.

"I'm in love with the shocking pink shade and I'm going to start wearing it and the other bright colors more often. I've been a little more adventurous lately with things like my hair and my clothes. I kind of got out of my super simple sweats phase and with that comes more fun makeup."
