Drew Barrymore Has Found An All-Natural Sunscreen That Doesn't Cause Breakouts

Drew Barrymore is a self-proclaimed beauty junkie, so naturally, she has a whole week dedicated to her routine, skin care struggles, and the products she loves (that are not paid sponsorships!) on her Instagram.

Barrymore says she loves that it’s a mineral-based sunscreen with broad-spectrum SPF 50+, meaning it protects against both harmful UVA and UVB rays without chemical filters.

“I’ve been slathering it on every day all day long and it hasn’t made me break out, which is kind of my number one issues with sunscreens. Do I want acne or dark sun spot damages? It’s a hard toss-up.” (Check out her favourite acne spot treatment here.)

Science backs her up on this one: Applying sunscreen liberally every single day is one of the easiest way to prevent the signs of premature ageing, such a fine lines, uneven texture, and hyperpigmentation, research shows.

On top of that, Barrymore loves that this chemical-free formula is reef-safe, too. “Ocean conservationists have given it a really good rating because it’s more gentle to the coral and better in the water, so all the way across the board, this is my new summer hero,” she says.

For her first #BeautyJunkieWeek pick, Barrymore delves into one of the most important steps in any skin care routine: sunscreen. The 44-year-old actress has talked about her love for Elta MD’s UV Daily SPF 40, but she recently found a new favourite that she can’t get enough of, Thinksport SPF 50+ Sunscreen, which you can easily find on Amazon or iHerb for less than $40 bucks.

Testers of the products seem to be hooked, too, thanks to its chemical-free ingredients, staying power, and gentle formula.

“I started using it on my runs, and was surprised that it didn’t run down my arms with sweat, it stay put,” one Amazon reviewer wrote. “Then I finally read the ingredients and was really impressed. So I started using it on my face, and no lie, this stuff keeps my face protected AND matte all day.”

Plus, it’s a great sunscreen for kids. “This is the only sunblock my daughter can use. She breaks out in severe eczema with any other product,” another reviewer wrote. “I used it on a week-long outdoor camp in south Texas with zero burn and only one reapplication midday. I had minimal freckling and no irritation. The scent is light and does not linger.”

So if you’ve been on the hunt for a new natural sunscreen, here’s your chance to stock up for the rest of the summer. Your skin will thank you!
