Tyra Banks Says She Weighs 25 Pounds More Than She Did On Her First SI Cover

Tyra Banks is one of the OG’s of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. She landed her first solo cover back in 1997 (although she appeared in a group shot in 1996). And this year, she’s back and looking gorgeous at 45.

According to People, Tyra was photographed in Great Exuma, Bahamas, by Laretta Houston wearing a tiny yellow string bikini in her comeback cover. And she made an appearance on Good Morning America on Wednesday morning, telling the hosts “My first one was 23 years ago, how crazy is that…I’m like damn—I’m 45 dog!”

She also said that she’s 25 pounds heavier than she was in the 1997 shoot.

“We couldn’t find the exact one in the archives—it was the polka dot bikini so we recreated that bikini,” she said. “I recreated it [the shoot]—25 pounds heavier.”

There’s no question that Tyra looks amazing—but she works hard to stay fit all year long. Here’s how she does it.

  • She eats in moderation. Last year, Tyra opened up to People about how she lost 30 pounds with the help of a nutritionist. “I’m all about moderation,” she told the magazine
  • But she still indulges. She also told People she doesn’t deny herself some of her favorite foods. “You have to indulge,” she said. “My mom and I together are very dangerous. We love ice cream!”
  • Tyra works with a trainer. According to Life & Style, Tyra has a trainer, Martin Snow, who works with her three days a week. Each workout is about an hour to an hour and a half long, and incorporates kickboxing and parachute running (intense!), as well as weight training with medicine balls and kettlebells.
  • She doesn’t count calories. Tyra told Women’s Health back in 2013 that she doesn’t count calories, but instead kept a food journal of everything she eats. “My nutritionist says, ‘If you bite it, write it.’ Writing down everything that you put in your mouth really helps. I don’t count a damn calorie. But when I’m really trying to eat healthy, I write everything down. It really holds me accountable and puts me on a healthier path.”
