Running blog: how was your weekend running?

I’m on my

third
fourth attempt to start this weekend debrief. My brain is buzzing, my leg muscles are madly twitching, I seem to be incapable of tweeting except in shouty capital letters/sweary characters.

Today I ran the New York marathon. It was … well, it was epic.

It was so so cold before the start that even with five disposable layers to shed I was fighting not to shiver constantly. It was so, so windy. Pretty much the entire first 21 miles was into a headwind. Did I mention it was windy? Did I mention it was cold?

The hills. The bridges that are actually hills. The hills that are actually bridges. The bridges that go on forever – special mention to the soul-destroying 59th Street bridge (I’ll never be able to listen to that Simon & Garfunkel song the same way again. Slow down, you move too fast indeed.)

Oh, and my time was 3hr 11min 20sec. Pretty darn proud of that on a day when even the elite winner, Wilson Kipsang, was a good seven minutes slower than he would have run another course, I think.

So, um, not to steal your thunder there, but … how was your weekend running? As always, tips (especially on recovery, thanks), feats and adventures below the line.
