While we all get hot and bothered and by a strong foreign accent, not all accents are equally arousing.
According to a survey of 5,000 men and women conducted by OnePoll, the Irish accent is the sexiest. In last year’s survey, Ireland came in third—below New Zealand and South Africa—but this year, the country has returned to its place at the number one spot, while the Kiwi and South African accents are no longer in the top 10.
A spokesperson from OnePoll told Dublin Live, “High-profile stars such as Colin Farrell have helped bring the accent more to the fore.”
Ireland beat out Italy and Scotland, which ranked second and third, respectively. (Scotland? Really?)
The American accent isn’t so hot, coming in at 10th place.

Given the number of regional dialects in each language, you can’t help but wonder which Irish accent (or for that matter, any accent on the list) people find attractive. Is it a Dublin accent like that of Farrell’s, or a fast-talking Cork accent? Same for American accents: How do folks feel about a Southern twang versus California surfer-speak? Whatever specific Irish accent people find sexy, we’ll let Ireland take its win on this one.
Nevertheless, if you’re not Irish, don’t be discouraged. If your flirting and sex game are strong, no one will give a damn about your accent.
