Brooks Koepka Just Had the Perfect Response to Getting Body Shamed

Brooks Koepka can feel secure about his place in the history books as one of America’s all-time most successful pro athletes. Among his many achievements, the four-time champion and current number one-ranked golfer in the world was the first to hold back-to-back titles in two majors. His otherworldly success on the golf course is also part of what drew the attention of ESPN’s 2019 Body Issue, which often features the world’s top athletes in provocative—read: mostly nude—poses.

During a Twitch livestream earlier this week, however, 26-year-old pro golfer Bryson DeChambeau took the opportunity to say he wasn’t so impressed with Koepka’s physique, noting the star golfer’s lack of a six-pack.”I don’t think his genetics even make him look good,” DeChambeau said. “Did you see the Body Issue? He didn’t have any abs. I can tell you that. I got some abs. I don’t know if that’s against regulation here on Twitch, but I would—I don’t think I can.”

DeChambeau, it’s worth noting, recently completed a grueling multi-week training regimen involving lots of pullups, farmer’s walks, and other lifting exercises that helped him pack on more than 25 pounds of muscle—reportedly going from 195 to 220 pounds. That dramatic transformation inspired Golfweek to brand him “golf’s version of Lou Ferrigno.” “DeChambeau looks like he could flex and rip through his golf shirt,” they wrote.

DeChambeau’s accomplishments in the gym, however, haven’t yet translated to a major title win, and it’s clear that fact wasn’t lost on Koepka in his pitch-perfect response to DeChambeau’s dig as he reignited their year-long feud.

“You were right @b_dechambeau I am 2 short of a 6 pack!” he wrote in a tweet caption—one that appeared directly above a photo of his four championship trophies, which, again, include a pair of U.S. Open titles.

From the looks of things, Koepka could be soon be on his way to adding even more hardware to his shelf: On Thursday, the World No. 1 returned from a three-month injury hiatus to shoot a bogey-free round of golf at the Abe Dhabi HSBC Championship. The achievement, it turned out, came with a karmic bonus: Dechambeau and his six-pack abs missed the cut.
